Flu season: Nothing to sneeze at

Hurricanes grab more headlines, but the flu's impact on America rivals our biggest natural disasters. Last flu season caused 100 million lost work days, nearly $7 billion in lost wages, and 32 million missed school days (Walgreens Flu Impact Report). According to the CDC, more than 62 million Americans will get the flu this year.

To help marketers shape consumer responses to flu treatment and prevention, interclick asked respondents to share their thoughts on flu shots, medications, and their primary sources of flu information. We found that 42% plan to get the flu shot this season, the majority of them women. And while doctors are the most trusted source for flu info, online resources are close behind.

Methodology:

In October 2011, interclick partnered with KN Dimestore to survey Americans online about the upcoming flu season. The eight-question survey was displayed in an in-banner ad to a run-of-network audience of 1,296 respondents who voluntarily completed the questionnaire.
